Movies about Cults

tl;dr I find cults to be an enticing combination of terrifying and interesting, so naturally I love movies about them! Here are some fairly recent favorites. Most are, not surprisingly, in the horror genre.

Criteria that had to be met in order for a movie to be added to this list:

  1. The movie is “fairly current” (e.g., year 2000 or later), just so I don’t create yet another list of classic horror films that people should see. Also, I’d be tempted to write “The Wickerman” over and over if I was able to include the classics. And no, not that bullshit with Nicholas Cage.
  2. The movie features a cult or a group of people dedicated to one person, deity, cause, or dogma.
  3. The person, deity, cause, dogma, or manner of dedication is disturbing in some way.
  4. The movie is fiction or based on historical fact, but is not a documentary.
  5. I enjoyed watching the movie. It should be noted that this does not mean the movie is good. Many people, including me, think my taste in films is complete shit!

Okay, here we go, in no particular order…
